Excuse the tears…The Hero and The Angel

They met in an elevator….Richard was the elevator operator and swore to his friends that she would be his wife. He knew. He always knew. If there was ever anything that he was always certain of, it was that Rose was meant for him. It didn’t come as easy to her. They were of different cultures, she a spanish speaking mexican with very proud roots and stern parents, he a salt of the earth german irishman. She knew there would be struggles so she prayed for answers. She prayed that the Lord would send her guidance. And anyone who knows her, knows that prayer wasn’t just a word she used that could have been transposed with “wish”. She really prayed to the Lord that she loved and he let her know that this was the man for her. He is a proud member of the First Division, The Big Red One, survived unthinkable events in World War II, returned home after numerous stays in hospitals. He was a survivor, a fighter and he loved her. They were married on this day in 1949. Yes, that’s 65 years! They built their own home (not a builder, they actually did the work themselves from a kit). They raised 9 children. 20 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grands and 1 on the way. Those of you who know Autumn and I know that we are cousins. Autumn’s father is the oldest of Rosemary and Richards 9 kids. Melinda’s Mother is the oldest girl of the group.
All this time, all of these stories of their lives, and they are still madly in love. My Grandmother is 90 years young and my Grandfather is 89. They live together in the same home they raised their family in, the home they built with their own hands. He still buys her flowers and perfume, she still goes to church every day to thank God for the life she was blessed with. They are an inspiration to every person they meet, every life they touch. He is a hero who has outlived most of the men he served with. She is pure beauty. There is not a person who has come in contact with her that would say she is anything less an Angel on earth. We’re so very blessed that she is our Angel. We’re so grateful that her blood runs through our veins.
Happy Anniversary Gram and Gramps. You have taught us all that the most important things in life are Family and Love.

We love you!! xoxo Autumn and Melin

This is the photo that inspired us to be wedding photographers. We are still searching for the name of their original wedding photographer.

Anita Antoinette McGathey Choppin - You’re not kidding about the tears!! Oh my goodness. My favorite auntie and uncle. What we can all learn from them! Just look at those photos. That says it all. Testament to true love. I am living in southern Calif now. I would love to have their address, although I can probably get it from my siblings. I want to send greetings to them. Uncle Dick is my late father’s brother.
Incredible photography that absolutely captures decades of love that we should all be fortunate to experience. I love them both very much and learned so much about family and love when I was young. Anita Antoinette ChoppinReplyCancel

Sam Thomas - An absolutely brilliant collection of photos – including 3 of me at the wedding!! Yes, I am proud to say that I was there in attendance at that epic event!! Really fantastic to see Uncle Dick and Aunt Rosie still looking so happy after all the years. In fact, I think they look even happier than they did at the beginning!! And, to be sure, they looked about as happy as a couple could look at the beginning of their life together. Marvellous album – thank you. Sam ThomasReplyCancel
